The Healing Touch Guidebook; Practicing the Art and Science of Human Caring, by Dorothea Hover-Kramer, may be an opening, a beginning, for interested readers from all walks of life. It is intended to help expand and deepen understanding of the healing process in both newcomers and seasoned practitioners. No matter where you are in your own journey of discovery, this work is an invitation to widen your exploration of the many facets of Healing Touch and its conceptual framework with focus on theory, science, research, and actual practice.
The book is organized into four sections. Healing Touch Guidebook Practicing the Art and Science of Human Caring Dorothea HoverKramer Healing Touch Program n/a 9780979047787 Books Reviews
The Healing Touch Guidebook is an excellent resource for the Healing Touch student, healthcare professionals and for people interested in Energy Therapies. The book covers theory and practice, scientific background and research and practical how -to applications. I loved the final section on the future visions for Healing Touch and energy medicine. The use of energy modalities for prevention in healthcare is natural and brilliant!
For those that are interested there is also a book available for introducing energy work to children My Helpful Healing Touch, A Guide for Empowering Children
If you are a novice or beginner at energy work and are looking for an instructional book that will teach you energy work I recommend you start with a more basic book. Also realize there can be quite a few steps with some of the Healing Touch techniques so it will take some practice to memorize all of it unless you are one of those blessed with a phenomenal memory, which sadly I am not. I see Hover-Kramer has written a more basic Healing Touch book you might read first if you are interested in getting an idea of what Healing Touch is about, Healing Touch Essential Energy Medicine for Yourself and Others, but I have not read this book yet so I have no opinion at this point as to how informative and useful it is and have to go by the reviews for now. If all you're interested in is learning a few techniques to try on yourself and others this simpler book may be the better option. As far this book though, again, I don't recommend this book for the novice or those wanting something simple.
Healing Touch split into 2 organizations, Healing Touch International (non profit) and Healing Touch Program (for profit). The Hover-Kramer books are under Healing Touch Program. As of the writing of this review, International does not have a similar comprehensive book and the practice is the same no matter which organization you learned from so this book is a great resource for the Healing Touch practitioner no matter the organization. I reviewed the previous version and the guide was aimed at health care professionals and was a bit too clinical for the layman Healing Touch A Guide Book for Practitioners, 2nd Edition (Healer Series). This newer guide strikes a better balance between appealing to the health care professional and the layman. It seems the split in organization and changing times has fueled a new direction and the desire to appeal to a wider audience by both organizations.
Healing Touch is a composite of different energy work modalties and resources such as Therapeutic Touch, Joy's Way, Barbara Brennan's Hands of Light, etc. so if your familiar with these sources you may not find much new in terms of practice. It seems to me they mostly looked for resources from people with M.D., PH.D, or R.N. after their name. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just want you to get an idea of the organizational mindset. So far the courses I have taken have been taught by a R.N. There are no attunements, symbols, special prayers, etc. required to do Healing Touch. My understanding is that it is also approved by the Catholic church for those with such concerns. If you prefer something that's not as new age as some of the other books or modalities out there this may be what you are looking for and the way things are put forth in the book may be useful if you are working with health care professionals.
Both Healing Touch organizations encourage people to start practices and obtain the certification. Personally I find I use a lot of the techniques from Level 1 so if you're not interested in a practice or certification Level 1 is sufficient. Not everyone is meant to run a practice or will make money at it. I have also taken Reiki and Quantum Touch and continue to explore more about energy work/spirituality as do most of the other energy work practitioners I know. In practice Reiki is simpler. Healing Touch also doesn't really cover distance healing at this point so Reiki and Quantum Touch helped me to be comfortable with distance healing (we presently use this for patients in isolation. I do volunteer energy work at local hospitals and a hospice). I also feel the attunements can help clear some of energetic blockages and improve wellness so Reiki provides a more consistent avenue for channeling energy if you've got an issue there, but I don't care for the use of the symbols and some won't want Reiki used on them. Plus, at this point there are so many types of Reiki out there it's a bit of a wild west show and hard to keep up on them all and what they all do or require. I learned the Western style Reiki from William Lee Rand's branch of Reiki. Quantum Touch is also an easy to use and complements both Reiki and Healing Touch modalities. Quantum Touch adds the use of breathing/pranayama to the healing modality. I have not found any healing modality to be the "it" and being able to offer a choice to the recipient is an advantage as some have a preference.
If you are interested in getting certified in an energy work modality, certification in Healing Touch requires more than just taking the courses. You'll be documenting things, putting in hours of practice, writing book evaluations, hooking up with a mentor, etc. The courses between Program and International will not be accepted by the other organization so once you start off with one of the organizations you will have to stick to that organization. You can go the websites for Healing Touch Program and Healing Touch International for information on classes, what's taught in the different levels, etc. I believe both organizations also offer a free newsletter so you can also acquaint yourself with some energy work topics and the Healing Touch organizations through this avenue. International has issues of the newsletter at their website. Sorry, but because of restrictions for the reviews I cannot leave the links of the websites here. There may also be some YouTube videos on Healing Touch you can watch.
A great comprehensive guide to the Healing Touch Program ) this was a required text for my amazing course in HT. I am so glad I bought and read it)
This is an excellent guidebook and companion peice for students of Healing Touch. I think it is very well laid out and easy to use.
Great book and excellent source of HT information!
It does what it is supposed to do; there is just no way, I imagine, to get the information across in any better way.
This just expands more on the different levels of Healing Touch. So I had taken Level 1, but was able to do more reading in this book than in the class book that we got. This is full of information and a great addition to your personal library.
thank you
